Thursday and Friday were both blistering hot here, it rained (at last) on Saturday afternoon and we woke up on Sunday morning to blustery winds which made the windows rattle and heavy rain. I even wore long sleeves, it was so chilly. I like a bed in a hotel too, but camping is cheaper and I like being outdoors. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-7821815580827741172018-07-29T19:59:59.870+01:002018-07-29T19:59:59.870+01:00My son was in Scouts so I do remember tents. LOL!
Guess what, my son is in England just now and he was there on FURNACE FRIDAY as they called it and then, on Saturday, he was amazed at the wind on Saturday and today, on Sunday, at how cold it has become! I like a hotel too but I like campsite prices and I really like the freedom there is on a campsite - although I have always said that my bottom line is flushing toilets and hot showers, wild camping is definitely not for me! xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-3073770093135244292018-07-29T16:35:21.799+01:002018-07-29T16:35:21.799+01:00Thanks Barbara. I know several people who haved moved on from small tents to large tents to caravans and regard that as "an upgrade" but I can't see the attraction really. I love being outdoors and I have always said that we gave our children more freedom on campsites than we did at home. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-42449138719172991252018-07-29T16:31:49.518+01:002018-07-29T16:31:49.518+01:00Thanks Jules. Fairweather camping is wonderful, although sometimes it's been too hot to be inside the tent by 7.30am and we have all woken up overheated and scrambled outside to find some shade! However, I do absolutely LOVE to be cosied up inside the tent when it's raining outside, preferably with the door open, a pot of tea (I always take a teapot) and a good book. x Mrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-50701023988693543812018-07-29T10:26:55.677+01:002018-07-29T10:26:55.677+01:00I feel I can add to the story concerning the Teach...I feel I can add to the story concerning the Teacher's 9th birthday present. We were meeting up for our customary family picnic lunch, that year at Buildwas Abbey, Ironbridge. It was a fine, though not scorching, Sunday in August. Her grandfather and I arrived early. It wasn't busy, and we wanted to ask a favour on entry: we were devoted grandparents, had driven 100 miles for this birthday treat, which included a surprise present, a (comparatively) small tent. Please could they see their way to allowing us to erect it in a suitably distant, quiet corner near the boundary? We promised(as responsible CADW members) to behave well and not be a nuisance to anyone. Many thanks and all credit to English Heritage staff who cautiously agreed to this. We called on our rusty camping skills to erect the tent in time to enjoy the Teacher's delight when she arrived at seeing her birthday present ready for her. It has lasted 20 years: a bargain, full of priceless memories.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07151801654234064252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-72005870669144067112018-07-29T09:02:20.503+01:002018-07-29T09:02:20.503+01:00Happy camping indeed! There's nothing quite like waking up in a tent in the morning, all that fresh air, although I haven't done that for years. I reached the grand age of twenty seven before I went camping for the first time in Edale - I'm not counting the 'pretend' tent my childhood friend and I used to make with mother's clothes horse and an old blanket!:) When first married we bought a tent and used it a few times on various holidays. Youth Hosteling was something else I had missed out on and we stayed in a few of those too. I hope you have many happy adventures in your new tent:)Rosiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04733563829902335223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-12303445574923165272018-07-28T18:09:17.657+01:002018-07-28T18:09:17.657+01:00Such a joy to read about your camping trips it bro...Such a joy to read about your camping trips it brought back so many lovely memories of when our girls were young. I have two tents, a small two man tent for the occasional night away when it's just me and Lily, and a larger four man tent for if and when the whole squad decide to join us. I love them both and I can see how you can easily get attached to them and the memories created on trips away.
Although I am admittedly a fairweather camper, I can see it getting addictive.
Your new tent looks very stylish. I'm sure you can find somewhere to hang the fairy lights. XJuleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03837629817375132149noreply@blogger.com
