My other bugbear is the wood, which is often screaming out to be fed and polished. Is it regarded as some sort of sacrilege? I like visiting churches for all your reasons and I'm particularly interested in the social history they reveal - and I have genealogical reasons, too. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-51928862012530615952020-10-15T15:38:43.633+01:002020-10-15T15:38:43.633+01:00Well Mrs. Tiggywinkle, that is indeed some well pr...Well Mrs. Tiggywinkle, that is indeed some well preserved history! xWinters End Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17924495691256051693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-38286609174896684882020-10-14T01:10:03.638+01:002020-10-14T01:10:03.638+01:00Guess next time you can take a mop.;)

Visiting old churches give us a wealth of information. They are such a source of history, art, architecture, literature and in my case genealogy. There are some extraordinary churches here which I like to visit but unfortunately photos are not allowed so I only post the facade of the churches. keep well Amanda xCrafty in the Medhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15365932964481050936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-56130113830702373012020-10-10T20:33:46.398+01:002020-10-10T20:33:46.398+01:00Linda, I have enjoyed your church visits and I hop...Linda, I have enjoyed your church visits and I hope we can all get back to visiting more churches soon. There is a tile museum in Jackfield, just a very few miles from St Leonard's, and I hope to visit that, too. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-36454067733798181602020-10-10T11:09:32.251+01:002020-10-10T11:09:32.251+01:00I used to spend time looking around old churches a...I used to spend time looking around old churches and churchyards during day trips. What a wonderful opportunity you had to go and visit St Leonard's! It's a gem. Of course, I enjoyed seeing the carvings, but the tiles are also interesting. The Churches Conservation Trust do a good work in caring for these buildings.Linda Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10634839688042592781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-33085425243882347242020-10-07T14:50:12.102+01:002020-10-07T14:50:12.102+01:00Thank you for your kind words. I used to live in a Victorian house which had a tiled hall floor like this and I am sure they must have come from Maw & Co, although it was 150 miles away. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-65941039722657441152020-10-07T14:48:23.764+01:002020-10-07T14:48:23.764+01:00I find the whole thing about building these struct...I find the whole thing about building these structures fascinating and I think I'd like to find out more about it. Arches especially intrigue me, the physics behind them and how those builders knew what would work and what wouldn't. I suppose I'm expressing some kind of modern, ignorant arrogance. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-81361361625190111322020-10-07T14:39:21.829+01:002020-10-07T14:39:21.829+01:00Me too Jo, I even used to rope my children into th...Me too Jo, I even used to rope my children into that on family holidays when they were young. They were so patient with me! This really is almost in the middle of nowhere and was a chapel of ease for a church in a small market town so I'm guessing that people were buried there. xMrs Tiggywinklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18262841220840086776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-201916595736418385.post-69494179381866959842020-10-04T09:38:59.130+01:002020-10-04T09:38:59.130+01:00Another wonderful church visit and a joy to come a...Another wonderful church visit and a joy to come along with you on a virtual tour. It's amazing how such work was done without the aid of our modern tools. The carvings are indeed wonderful - I often wonder about the people/men who did the carvings - what they thought, how they lived. It's a shame there's no graveyard, I'm a bit weird that way, I do love to look around the churchyard and read a bit about the people resting there.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17436932004631816039noreply@blogger.com
